About us

We were born from the generous hearts of Paraguayans united by a common desire: to help the children and families that are affected by poverty in their communities.

Dequeni takes its name from the biblical phrase of the gospel: Let the children come to me (Mark 10,14).

Today Dequení is an organization of Paraguayan civil society with experience in promoting and protecting children. The Foundation brings together the spirit of solidarity of many benefactors, companies and organizations with the desire to help children.

Mission

Our work promotes overcoming poverty for children, adolescents and their families, through solidarity.

Vision

To be an institution of reference in the defense and promotion of the rights of children and adolescents, which sensitizes and channels a broad flow of solidarity and social responsibility for the improvement of their quality of life.

Values

Our solidarity work is based on love, solidarity, service, participation and honesty.

Our beginnings

On May 4, 1985, a group of young people from the Schoenstatt Apostolic Movement in Paraguay took the initiative to help children working in an area of the country known as Calle Ultima in the city of Fernando de la Mora. They organized days of catechism and afternoon tea in the Chapel Medalla Milagrosa. 33 young street vendors of sweets and newspapers attended this first invitation. The meetings were repeated over time, involving more generous people, and that is how the Foundation of Dequeni was formed.
